La Verne D. Partlow, M.Ed., Health Education Coordinator, at Gaston County Public Health. La Verne has over 27 years of public health experience at the local and state levels. From 1997 to 2000, she worked at the Iredell County Health Department as the Health Education Specialist. During her tenure, she developed and implemented a lay health advsior program to address sexually transmitted infections in the African-American community. From 2000 to 2005, La Verne worked as a Program Consultant in infant morbidity and mortality in the African American with the NC Department of Health and Human Services. Since 2005, she has been working in chronic disease prevention.
La Verne has 14 years of experience as an adjunct professor at Johnson C. Smith University, North Carolina A&T State University, and Clinton College. She has taught various heatlh education courses. La Verne is certfied through the Association of College and University Educators (ACUE).
La Verne holds a Bachelor of Science in Health Education from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a Master of Health Promotion from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She is a 32-year member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. She served eight years as her chapter's Heralth Subcommittee charirman.
La Verne enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling and running. She has a personal goal of completing a full or half marathon in all 50 states plus DC.
