Health Science Librarian
George Mason University
Fairfax, Virginia, United States
My portfolio of health information literacy development in an academic health science library combined with outreach in underserved communities and the development of the Librarian Reserve Corps (LRC) speak to my commitment to my personal vision that all people have-and use-21st Century information skills. As the health science librarian at George Mason University and formerly the public health librarian at the Rudolph Matas Library of the Health Sciences serving the Tulane University School of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, I am committed to developing information literacy skills for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students.
In 2021, I was recognized by Library Journal as a 2021 Librarian of the Year for founding the LRC, a 130-member international librarian volunteer information response to the emerging indodemic which used crowd-sourcing and low technology software to describe over 50,000 COVID-19 scientific works received, but not processed, by the World Health Organization Library. Subsequently, I developed a team to consider how authority could be applied to the most harmful trending viral COVID misinformation in Pan American countries. I am the Magazines for Libraries Public Health Chapter author, an editorial board member of CABI Digital Library, two-term SOPHE Secretary and proud member since 1995.
