Dr. Flores-Thorpe is a Postdoctoral Fellow at UTHealth Houston School of Public Health – NCI Cancer Control Research Training Program and a Visiting Professor at New Mexico State University’s Global Campus. As a postdoc, she works to educate state-level policymakers on child and public health topics, including Maternal Child Health, Food Insecurity/Access, tobacco prevention and cessation, and school-based health, both during and between Texas Legislative Sessions. Dr. Flores-Thorpe also helps to track state-level public health bills filed during the Legislative Sessions. At New Mexico State University, she teaches asynchronous undergraduate and graduate-level public health classes.
Dr. Flores-Thorpe holds a PhD in Public Health from the University of Texas Health Science Center Houston School of Public Health, having graduated in 2023, and a Masters of Education in Health Education from Texas State University, graduating in 2018. Before graduate school, she graduated from St. Edward’s University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology. She hails from Albuquerque, New Mexico, but has called herself a Texan for the past 14 years. In her free time, Dr. Flores-Thorpe enjoys traveling and spending time with her sweet pup, Landry.
