Raquel Garcia, RN, BSN is University Health’s (UH) Community Health Education Nurse Manager in the Community Health and Stategies and Innovation department. Raquel began her nursing career in 2005 in the Women’s Health field. After completing nursing school, she worked as a staff nurse in Labor and Delivery/Newborn Nursery/Postpartum Care and NICU for 8 years before serving as a home health nurse for the Nurse Family Partnership program with
the Kansas City Health Department. In 2011, Raquel moved to UH to serve as the Community Health Education Nurse for their Community Health Strategies and Innovation department.As the CHE Nurse Manager, Raquel has focused on providing health education outside of the hospital setting to inspire changes in daily health habits amongst Kansas City residents. Raquel has developed and led several programs and clinics in regards to preventative health education. She has worked with local community partners to secure a variety of screenings, improved access to healthcare and one on one health education in both English and Spanish for those community members that are underserved and face multiple barriers regarding health care. Garcia graduated from Rockhurst/Research College of Nursing with a bachelor’s degree in Science of Nursing. She currently serves on the board of the National Association of Hispanic Nurses (KC Chapter) and Guadalupe Centers Inc., named a Hero in Healthcare by Ingram’s Magazine in 2019 and has received the Nursing Excellence Award for Community Outreach with University Health for three consecutive years. Garcia is also a newlywed and mother to 17 year old Raquel Liliana, is bilingual in Spanish/English and loves to read a good romance novel.
