Melissa Alperin, more commonly known by her nickname, Moose, has a long history of serving in leadership roles for workforce development and public health practice initiatives. Among her numerous titles at the Rollins School of Public Health at Emory University, Moose is the Director of the Executive MPH program, which is the distance-based MPH program at Rollins; Director of Online Education; and PI/Director of the Region IV Public Health Training Center. Additionally, Moose is an Associate Professor of Practice in the Department of Behavioral, Social and Health Education Sciences at Rollins.
Since 1989, Moose has been the Co-PI or Project Director/Coordinator on numerous workforce development initiatives including the Region IV Public Health Training Center; Kentucky Public Health Emerging Leadership Institute; Georgia COVID-19 Interim After Action Report; Georgia Hurricane Response Hub Technical Assistance Center; and Emory Center for Public Health Preparedness.
Moose is active in professional organizations, including the American Public Health Association, where she currently serves as the Chair of the Executive Board; and she is a past President of Georgia SOPHE. She also serves on the Editorial Board of Pedagogy in Health Promotion. Moose received the Early Career Award (1999) and Judith R. Miller Award (2013) from the Public Health Education and Health Promotion Section of APHA; Kathy Miner Health Education and Health Promotion Award (2014) from the Georgia Public Health Association; Chair Citation (2019, 2021) from the APHA Council of Affiliates; Practice Excellence Award (2021) from the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH); and Faculty Practice Award (2023) from Rollins. Moose has an AB degree in Judaic Studies from Brown University; an MPH degree in health promotion and education from Emory University; and an EdD in Higher Education Management from the University of Georgia. She is a Master Certified Health Education Specialist.
