Brief Abstract Summary: Explore the experiences of two MPH graduates and one current MPH student as they apply David Kolb’s Theory of Experiential Learning to compare their formal education with real-world challenges in public health. As the team navigates unexpected difficulties such as subcontractor relationships, community needs outside of the scope of work, and grant requirements, they reflect on what they wish their MPH curriculum included and how their education serves them now. This particular team consists of a unique dynamic: the subordinates have high educational achievement, while the supervisor specializes in program implementation and community relationships. Hear how this team manages the complexities of their workplace dynamic and leave equipped with the tools needed to supplement the knowledge of students and recent graduates with the “hands-on” skills traditionally only earned through years of experience.
