Write effective, inclusive, public health forward social media messaging for a variety of audiences.
Identify useful tools for creation of public health focused social media posts and understand best practices for effective distribution of materials.
Brief Abstract Summary: Learn how New York's Local Health Department Member Association has been leveraging social media to promote vaccine equity across the state. This session will describe effective communication strategies for reaching diverse audiences through social media and demonstrate how these methods can be applied across other public health issues. Attendees will leave with practical tools for creating inclusive, health-forward messaging that engages and informs their communities.
Detailed abstract description: Discover how social media can be a powerful tool for promoting vaccine equity through practical insights from New York’s Local Health Departments. In this session, we will explore the use of social media to tackle vaccine hesitancy, expand vaccine access, and ensure equitable public health outreach. Participants will engage with real-world examples of how effective social media strategies have been implemented to build trust and deliver clear, compelling public health messages across diverse communities.
This session will focus on two primary learning objectives. First, participants will learn to identify and apply proven communication strategies for creating vaccine equity content that resonates with various audiences. We will break down how these strategies, originally designed to address COVID-19 vaccinations, can be adapted to tackle a wide range of public health issues. Second, the session will explore best practices for writing content that is clear, accessible, and engaging for different demographic groups, including underserved populations that face unique barriers to healthcare access.
By the end of this session, participants will have the practical tools and confidence to create impactful social media campaigns that not only promote vaccine equity but also address broader public health challenges. They will leave with the ability to tailor their messaging to specific local populations, ensuring that their efforts are inclusive, effective, and community-driven.
